Toller Cranston was fearless in expression, courageous in creativity, and innovative in interpretation. Toller had a determination, dedication and a desire to go where no skater had gone before.

Olympic Medalist, world renowned for his artistry, Toller Cranston brought freedom of expression to the sport of skating. Acclaimed as the most influential figure skater of the 20th century, Toller revolutionized skating. He took the sport to new heights. He inspired generations.

He was not only an artist on the ice. His paintings—colourful, flamboyant and intricate—continue to be sought by collectors all over the world.

He became a legend.

And he was the brother of our own Phillippa Baran!!

In honour of Toller (1949-2015), Phillippa again hosted the annual Toller Cranston Individual Championship game.

2026 Results

It was a chaotic start but all worked out in the end! We had a record number of players, including experienced and novice players. As usual, Phillippa did an amazing job of hosting and honouring the life of her brother.

This year, she introduced her latest book, Toller Cranston, Artistic Impressions.

Through images and stories, Phillippa shares Toller’s journey from his first piece of art, a pen and ink drawing of an upside-down-hanging-by-its-feet dead chicken selling for just $15, to the recent sale of an oil painting for seventy-thousand dollars.

So who managed best playing with lots of unknown partners? Well, of course, it was Elaine Calvert! Congratulations!!

What a fun and chaotic day! It was so nice to see both experts and novices coming to play. We also had some new faces out to support Phillippa. Thank you.

And Phillippa, as usual, you did an amazing job of hosting and it was an honour celebrating the life of your brother.
